As Christians we consider ourselves to be disciples of Christ. But a disciple of Christ is not just someone who has accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior. It is someone who is closely following Him, growing in Him, and modeling His way of living. It is not someone who is perfect. We can see in the Word that even Jesus' closest followers also made mistakes.
The last words Jesus spoke on earth was a command to "go forth and make disciples." As disciples we affect others with the gospel.
Also, when we look at the lives of Jesus and His followers, we can see that there are many benefits for being a close follower of Christ. Benefits that He wants us to enjoy. Benefits that will enrich our lives and help us to be what He desires us to be.
Father God,
I am so thankful for Your Word and Your direction. I pray that you will help me to be a close follower of you. Help me live in such a way that I can help others to become Your disciples and so that I can receive what you desire for me in this life.
